Climate Characteristics

In Alberta, the temperature in January can change rapidly, it can go from −8°C in South Alberta to −24 °C  in Northern Alberta. In July, it is around -24°C in Southern Alberta and around 16°C in Northern Alberta. The anuual rainfall ranges from 300mm (South Alberta) to 450mm (North Alberta) 



 

Alberta Landform Regions



















Alberta has 3 landform regions, Western Cordillera, Interior Plains, and Canadian Shield. Western Cordillera is on the very west of Alberta containing many mountains. Interior Plains, often called "the prairies" contains mostly flat and fertile soil, mostly covering Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. Canadian Shield is at the north-east portion and is a geological shield covered over half of Canada. Overall, it is considered a Prairie province.

3 Places to Visit

1. Banff National Park
 
Banff is established in the Rocky Mountains in 1885 and is Canada's first national park and the world's third national park. It covers 6,641 kilometers (2,564 miles). The highest mountain in Banff and eighth tallest in the Canadian Rockies, is Mt. Forbes standing at 11, 850 feet (3, 612 metres). More than 4 million tourists visit every year.

2. West Edmonton Mall

West Edmonton Mall was founded by the Gerhmezian brothers, and opened on September 15, 1981. It is North America's largest shopping mall, and was the world's largest until 2004. Now it is the fifth largest shopping mall in the world. The mall has over 800 stores, and 110 food stands and restaurants covering 570,000 m2 (well over 6 million sq ft). Major Attractions include World Waterpark; the world's largest indoor wave pool, Putt 'n' Glow; a glow in the dark miniature golf course, and Galaxyland; the world's largest indoor amusement park. 3. Royal Tyrrell Museum

A popular Canadian tourist attraction, having a collection of more than 130,00 fossils. One geologist who discovered the first dinosaur is Joseph Burr Tyrrell, which is how the museum got its name. One of the most popular exhibits is "Dinosaur Hall", including almost 40 mounted dinosaur skeletons. Other exhibits include a diorama of many creatures from Yoho National Park.
